Pairings PDXPairings Portland is known as “Portland’s Weirdest Wine Shop and Bar” and they feature a collection of over 350 wines from around the globe at friendly prices. Approximately 80% of their inventory is made from grapes that are organically farmed, minimally-filtered and fermented with their natural yeast. But as good as this sounds, the best part of Pairings Portland is their unique take on wine pairings. Instead of pairing wine with the usual food offerings, they will pair wines with just about anything. Some people might ask “What goes well with chicken?”, but at Pairings Portland, they ask, “What goes well with Bridgerton?” Their intriguing pairings with movies, songs, dog breeds, astrological signs, TV characters and beyond are down-to-earth, unintimidating and fun. And they deliver! They are open seven days a week from 12-6 PM and they have themed weekly tastings.

The Pie SpotPie, a dessert for all seasons, and rarely do you find a place with the amazing creations that are baked daily at The Pie Spot. Their menu consists of some of the most crave-worthy pies in Portland. They have an extensive menu of pie flavors to match any occasion and you can order a whole pie or their namesake Pie Spots. What is a Pie Spot? Like cake has cupcakes, their pies have Pie Spots. These are individual pies that fit in your hand and that have all the same magic as their full-sized pies. No matter the size of gathering you have this holiday season, The Pie Spot can make you the dessert champion. They are currently taking pre-orders for Thanksgiving (order cutoff is November 23rd). Get a box of 6 pie spots for your small gathering. Indulge in a baker’s dozen for a larger group. You can also order 9” pies (including vegan and gluten-free varieties), cookies, or pie crust cinnamon rolls.
With flavors like brown butter pecan (personal favorite), chocolate hazelnut, pumpkin, s’more, and so many more, they are the place to go for a dessert that will wow. As if this weren’t enough, they also offer a selection of individual savory pies and menu items outside of pie form. Not, entertaining for the holidays? No problem, visit them at one of their two locations to pick up one or more pie spots to go. Don’t feel like going out? No worries, they have delivery available from both car and bike delivery services. You need these pies. |
Ashley Ragsdale and Jessica Woods started The Pie Spot in 2009 by selling pie in local farmer’s markets and street fairs. In 2010, they opened a food cart to rave reviews. In 2013, they opened their first store at 521 NE 24th Ave. Portland, OR 97232. In February 2017, a fire broke out at their shop and forced them to close for over half a year. Determined to keep feeding their delicious baked treats to Portland, they rose from the ashes and reopened in October of the same year. In 2020, a second, walk-up location was opened in the new Rocket Empire Machine building at 69th and NE Glisan. |

Ditto: Grilled Cheese Made Vegan
As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, one of life’s great cozy meals is a bowl of homemade tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Ditto: Grilled Cheese Made Vegan is exactly what it sounds like and so much more. There’s an impressive assortment of grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade tomato soup on their menu just begging to be tried. Other menu items include basil ricotta, smoked provolone, Italian sausage, BBQ soy curls, grilled mushrooms or even a burger patty- all vegan, all delicious. Vervoort Sausage DinnerAbout 25 miles west of Portland lies the community of Verboort. Every year, on the first Saturday of November, Verboort does what they have done every year since 1934…serve tons of sausage. The annual Verboort Sausage dinner serves up freshly made sausage, sauerkraut, and applesauce made by volunteers from the community. They typically serve 7,500-10,000 people at the dinner itself, and additional customers through bulk purchasing. 86 years of practice make this a fun experience that you should not pass up. They are determined to keep the tradition going this year by serving their traditional sausage, sauerkraut and applesauce dinner as a drive thru available from 11:00am-8:00pm on Saturday, November 7th. You can also buy sausage and sauerkraut in bulk on that same day, also as a drive thru, from 8am-6pm.
Verboort Sausage Dinner ADDRESS: 4285 NW Visitation Rd, Forest Grove, OR 97116. Visit them on FACEBOOK. |
Started in 1934, the Verboort Sausage Dinner is an annual event whose proceeds go to supporting the Visitation Catholic School. Since its inception, all of the sausage, sauerkraut and applesauce has been made by hundreds of volunteers each year. During normal years, the dinner is served family style with roaming servers ready to reload your plate until you have had your fill. Additional activities normally include crafts, games, and a separate beer garden for adults (shuttles provided).

1927 S'moresNational s’more day is August 10th, but this tried and true American favorite treat can be enjoyed in all seasons and for any reason. This is being demonstrated daily by the amazing team at 1927 S’mores. One of their six types of s’more (including a vegan option) are sure to tempt your sweet tooth. In addition to the namesake offering, they also serve a s’more parfait, cream hot chocolate, and grahamwiches (ice cream sandwiches made with their house made graham crackers).
Owned and operated by James and Elise Kelly, this local favorite for sweet treats started in a sidewalk cart and in local festivals and events in 2015. The search for a better s’more led them to create their own graham crackers and marshmallow to truly perfect this experience. In 2019, they opened their s’more store, located at 1126 SW Alder Street. |
